Tramada wins AFTA’s 2019 NTIA award for Best Travel Agent Technology Innovation

Tramada recognised for NDC capabilities supporting end-to-end booking processing, at scale

Sydney, Australia – 23 July – Tramada Systems has announced that its New Distribution Capability (NDC) Solution won first place at the Australian Federation of Travel Agents’ annual National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) held in Sydney on 20 July , 2019.

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) NDC – a revolutionary XML-based transmission standard – is designed to deliver dynamic pricing and customised airline content to travel agents and aggregators, and is defining the direction of technology platforms in the travel industry, globally. Pre-NDC, airline content such as unbundled tickets and ancillaries like checked bags, lounge access, airport parking/hotels, car hire, transfers, currency exchange, and Wi-Fi have been traditionally sold on the airlines’ websites, and not available to agents via the GDSs. The advent of IATA’s NDC  enables agents to better search for and personalise air fares, sell ancillaries, customise bundled offers, and book flights.

Tramada’s NDC Solution is the much-needed bridge between airlines and travel agencies for NDC by providing the essential post-booking processes such as payments, invoices, itineraries and reporting that have been missing in the NDC environment.

“By building NDC-equivalency into the core of our tramada® post-booking platform, Tramada Systems provides tramada-enabled agents with the same robust, scalable, secure, and automated post-booking processes of NDC content that they presently enjoy with GDS and booking-direct content, and at no extra cost,”  said Susan Enners, Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand, at Tramada Systems.

“They can even combine sources such as NDC and GDS within a single hybrid booking – effortlessly and at scale,” she added.

Jo O’Brien, CEO of Tramada Systems, shared: “We are so pleased to be recognised by the peak industry body, AFTA, for our contribution to the progression of the NDC. While the benefits of the NDC are still being discovered, we are already driving industry adoption and transition to this new frontier by providing for downstream booking handling in a seamless, consistent workflow.”

Hotly contested Technology Innovation category

The win in the NTIA’s Best Travel Agent Technology Innovation category was the culmination of a robust judging process that comprised:

  • 2,000-word written submission to an academic judging panel addressing the Tramada NDC’s primary objectives, research and development, partnerships resulting from its development, industry adoption, the value it adds to travel businesses as a result of its implementation, and more.
  • Presentation to an industry-related three-person judging panel by Susan Enners and Björn Böhme, Tramada’s Global Director of Product and Engineering.

The NTIA ceremony is the region’s premier industry event, and this year attracted 1,300 attendees from across the travel industry – airlines, hotels, car hire providers, tour operators, wholesalers, river and cruise operators, as well as leisure, corporate and online travel agencies.

The Technology Innovation category won by Tramada Systems was hotly contested, with Tramada NDC Solution winning out from products of four other finalists, none of whom were offering NDC solutions.

Innovation is a Tramada trademark

“Helping agents stay at the forefront of industry change is a Tramada trademark, and empowering them to embrace the NDC and ease the post-booking management of this new, dynamic marketplace is yet another shining example of this,” said Susan Enners.
